From Fairways to Lattes: How Twisted Peacock Brought Color to Vienna's Mornings

VIENNA, Ohio. For more than two decades, Cyndi and Jamie Koehler measured their days in tee times. The couple ran Vienna Short Holes Par 3 Golf Course and raised a life here over 26 years, becoming as much a part of the township as the fields that roll out behind their building.

Then, in 2023, they felt called to something new.

The Koehlers traded scorecards for coffee cups and turned their old business into Twisted Peacock Coffee, a shop they describe as centered on Christ, family and community. The name fits the place. Their stickers promise "Where Coffee Meets Color," and the shop delivers on it, from the bright walls to the green counter where Cyndi and Jamie greet regulars by name.

Mornings at Twisted Peacock start early. The coffee bar turns out lattes, macchiatos, cappuccinos and mochas, along with cold brew, chai lattes and hot cocoa for the cooler months. The kitchen handles breakfast and lunch, with bagels, oatmeal and sandwiches carrying names like the Green Feather and the Sweet & Salty. The bakery case holds scones, banana bread, donuts and pastries made in-house. The menu shifts with the seasons, so regulars know to ask what's new.

What keeps people lingering, though, is everything beyond the counter. There's a game room and a set of community puzzles, put there on purpose so strangers end up talking to each other. A small gift shop carries goods from other local businesses, right down to the doggie treats. Out back, the old golf course grounds have become outdoor seating, and on a clear fall evening the view across the field is worth staying for.

That commitment to local runs all the way to the coffee. Twisted Peacock pours Third Day Coffee, roasted a few miles away in Cortland. And one cup on their menu can't be found anywhere else.

The Twisted Peacock Blend is a custom coffee Third Day roasts only for the Koehlers. It's a medium-dark roast with notes of dark chocolate and vanilla, built to stand up to milk in a latte and still taste good black. Customers who fall for it can buy a bag at the counter to brew at home.

The shop's other coffees are ones you can order from home. Its espresso drinks are pulled with our Black Lab Espresso, the everyday drip is our House Blend, and anyone skipping the caffeine gets our Brazil Mogiana Decaf.
